How can I get more time before I am evicted?

by | Dec 21, 2024 | Evictions, Landlord-Tenant |

If you have recently appeared in court and either entered into an agreement (also known as a Stipulation of Settlement) and need more time to comply, or did not show up in court and are now in receipt of a Sheriff or Marshal’s Notice, our office may be able to assist you in addressing the situation (including requesting more time to move, repay your financial debt to the landlord, or even vacate (undo) your default for not appearing in court)

An Order to Show Cause is a Motion which a tenant can file in court asking the judge to grant them more time before an eviction takes place. Our firm examines your particular situation to attempt to come up with a solution that may work for you. Once the Order to Show Cause is filed with the Court, the judge will consider the tenant’s reasons and decide whether to grant the request and/or invite the parties to return to court.  Documentation and solid reasoning are key components of an Order to Show Cause and we recommend that you retain an eviction lawyer, such as the Law Office of Bradley D. Schnur, Esq. P.C. to assist you with your matter.
